THE ENDANGERING CAUSES AND PRESERVING STRATEGIES FOR CATHAYA ARGYROPHYLLA, A PLANT ENDEMIC TO CHINA
|
Abstract:
The strong climatic changes in history resulted in a great decline of the population and a massive shrinkage of the distribution range for Cathaya argyrophylla in large scale. These might lead to a low genetic biodiversity and a great reproductive barrier limiting the development of the population, and finally formed a vicious circle making C.argyrophylla endangered. Therefore, the decrease of the population might occur and the species could be endangered even if the deforest and other human activities were not very strong. To effectively preserve the plant,it should be done to conserve the whole environment of C.argyrophylla ,to thin broad leaved trees, and meanwhile to plant in exsitu .
