Numerical simulation of the soil radon concentration distribution in the overburden above active faults
|
Abstract:
Based on the field measurement profile this paper established a geological-physical model and proposed a mathematic model for radon migration in the overburden above active faults. The finite difference method was used to get the numerical resolution for the 2-D differential equation of the radon migration. Based on the results, this paper got several kinds of profiles crossing faults and 2-D section contour diagrams of radon concentration distribution in the overburden above the faults such as steep, dipping and graben faults and fracture zones. The profile and 2-D sections characteristics of the radon concentration distributions were analyzed. These results get from the models based on the radon migration mechanism agree well with the field measurement profiles from active fault investigations. And these conclusions can provide the theoretical basis for the active fault investigation and further mathematic inversion.
