Production and Process Optimization of an Emulsifier as a Tradition Food Salt (Nikki) from Musa paradisiaca (Plantain) Waste Peels Enriched with Ficus Waste Peels Ash and Evaluation of Its Effect on the Emulsification, Stabilisation and Sensory Properties of Yellow Achu-Soup

Kere Sinia Mboseh,Pride Ndasi Ngwasiri,Calister Wingang Makebe,Adanmengwi Vivian Akah,Ngwabie Martin Ngwa,Martin Benoit Ngassoum
Yellow achu-soup, an emulsion of red palm oil and water is a traditional delicacy in the grass field of Cameroon, which faces a problem of its stability due to the quality of the emulsifier used to emulsify and stabilize it. This study was designed for the optimization of the production of an emulsifier (Nikki) from Musa paradisiaca (Plantain) Peels enriched with Ficus Peels as a traditional food salt for the emulsification and stabilisation of yellow achu-soup. A fact...

Embryonic Development in Light of Controlled Chaos Dynamics and Quantum Electrodynami

Claudio Messori
Biological systems are necessarily dissipative structures in the long run, and dissipative structures are far from equilibrium and homeostasis: order (periodicity) and disorder (non-linear variability) are “coexisting dynamic states”. The common epistemological habit of modern molecular biology is to reduce an observed phenotype or function to a molecular entity, such as a gene, protein or pathway, which have become the embodiment of causation in biology. In the emerging framework of ge...

Biotechnological Drug Development—The Role of Proteins, Genes, In-Silico, and Stem Cells in Designing Models for Enhanced Drug Discovery

Taofik Ahmed Suleiman, Ann Christopher Francis, Abdulwasiu Ibrahim, Adedoyin Owolade Jonn-Joy, Ebenezer Adebiyi, Daniel Tweneboah Anyimadu
The application of biotechnology in drug discovery has been discovered to be a promising and resourceful approach for the discovery of novel therapeutic candidates that comes with less time and cost than the traditional ways of drug discovery. This has additionally endowed researchers with the necessary understanding of diseases, which offers exceptional methods for treating patients. Additionally, diagnosis and treatment are becoming increasingly intertwined with the help of biotechnology. Toda...

Fast QRS Complex Detection Algorithm Based on RMS Shifting Concept for Heart Rate Estimation Using an Electrocardiogram

Gilles Yowel Massala Mboyi, Marius Massala Mbindzoukou, Pierre Moukeli Mbindzoukou, Jung-Hoon Han
Accurate detection of QRS complex in electrocardiogram (ECG) signals is essential for reliable estimation of the heart rate. However, traditional QRS detection algorithms often have low performance in the presence of various types of noise and signal abnormalities and require additional memory resources to track undetected peaks. In this work, we propose a novel QRS complex detection algorithm based on the root mean square (RMS) shifting concept. The concept of RMS shifting consists to remove an...

Overview of Cancer Management—The Role of Medical Imaging and Machine Learning Techniques in Early Detection of Cancer: Prospects, Challenges, and Future Directions

Taofik Ahmed Suleiman, Adetola Mary Tolulope, Funmilola Olanike Wuraola, Rotimi Olorunfemi, Wakeel Adekunle Kasali, Bright Odinaka Okorocha, Christian Dirisu, Prisca Chinonso Njoku
Globally, the advent of new cases of cancer has been steadily increasing, with rising mortality and a significant impact on the economy. Most malignancy outcomes are linked to early detection, prompt diagnosis, and treatment. The need for early detection is crucial to cancer management. With these increasing numbers, there is a need for the adoption of emerging technologies such as machine learning to help improve the outcome of cancer management. For these reasons, in this paper, we reviewed th...

Kernel PCA Based Non-Local Means Method for Speckle Reduction in Medical Ultrasound Images

Musab Elkheir Salih, Xuming Zhang, Mingyue Ding
The speckle noise is considered one of the main causes of degradation in ultrasound image quality. Many despeckling filters have been proposed, which are always making a trade-off between noise suppression and loss of information. A class of despeckling methods based Non-Local Means (NLM) algorithm is known to efficiently preserve the edges and all fine details of an image while reducing the noise. The core idea of NLM filter is to estimate the denoised pixel by performing a weighted average of ...

Investigation of Loss of Consciousness Induced by Gravity Acceleration on the Human Brain

Abbas Shafiee, Amirhossein Ahmadian, Mohammadali Alidoost
Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI’s) are any disorder in a brain’s functionality that can be caused by numerous reasons, including motor-vehicle crashes, falls, and assaults. Impractical in-vivo head injury experiments compel bio- engineers to develop a robust, accurate, and efficient computer model. In this study, bovine brain samples were tested under a confined compression testing machine. Consequently, the result from unconfined compression tests, at quasi-static strain rates of ε=0.0004...

Wnt5a Role in Cisplatin Effect and Selectivity Augmentation in Cancer Therapy

Waleed O. Atta, Ahmed Z. Abdel Azeiz
Wnt5a is a representative protein ligand that activates a beta catenin independent pathway in Wnt signaling in cancer progression and spread in the palmitoylated form. So that its synthesis is augmented through promotion of its gene transcription in the malignant cells. Cisplatin is an important chemotherapeutic drug used in treatment of different types of advanced cancer. However, its usage is limited due to severe dose-limiting side effects, due to the lack of targeting therapy of cisplatin. O...

Production of α-Amylase by Bacillus subtilis QM3 and its Enzymatic Properties

Qingping Hu, Jingjing Liu
Alpha-amylase is a starch hydrolyzing enzyme which has many industrial applications. In this study, Bacillus subtilis QM3 has ability to produce α-amylase. Identification was done by iodine test, based on the clear zone around the sample in starch agar plates. Alpha-amylase activity was measured using 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS). The result showed B. subtilis QM3 can produce α-amylase and activity of α-amylase was 50.58 IU/mL. The study on enzymatic properties was found: the optimum temperat...

Study on the Adsorption of Heavy Metal by Extracellular Polymeric Substances Extracted from Proteiniphilum acetatigenes PSB-W

Qingping Hu, Xiaoqi Liu
The negatively charged coordination groups on the structure of these biomolecules, which is the main components of extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), have good adsorption efficiency for heavy metals. In this paper, EPS form Proteiniphilum acetatigenes PSB-W which was extracted by EDTA method, and the effects of pH, EPS dosage, adsorption time and initial metal concentration on the adsorption regularity of Cu2 and Pb2 ions on EPS structure were studied respectively, as well as the adsorp...
