Vegeta??o campestre do sul do Brasil: dinamica de espécies à exclus?o do gado
Boldrini, Ilsi Iob;Eggers, Lilian;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061996000100004
Abstract: the aim of this study was to evaluate modifications after eight years without grazing in a native grassland area, located at the esta??o experimental agron?mica - ufrgs, in eldorado do sul, rs. vegetation surveys were done in 1984 and 1992. sixteen permanent sample quadrats (0.25 m2) were established and presence of species and cover-abundance values according to the daubenmire scale were recorded. absolute frequencies and cover values (af and ac, respectively) in 1984 and 1992 are presented for gramineae, compositae, rubiaceae, leguminosae, umbelliferae and cyperaceae species. the study showed the relation between the growth forms of the most abundant species and the grazed and ungrazed situations. creeping, stoloniferous and rhizomatous species of gramineae (paspalum notatum, axonopus affinis and others) were conspicuous when the area was under grazing, being replaced by tussock-type plants (andropogon lateralis, elyonurus candidus and others) able to dominate and shade out small understory herbs, when excluded. compositae and rubiaceae species showed a reduction in af and few changes in ac. leguminosae species had an increase in af, presenting almost constant values for ac. half of the umbelliferae species presented an increase in ac in the second survey. twenty five species appeared and 42 vanished in 1992.
On forced periodic solutions of superlinear quasi-parabolic problems
Jose Luiz Boldrini,Janete Crema
Electronic Journal of Differential Equations , 1998,
Abstract: We study the existence of periodic solutions for a class of quasi-parabolic equations involving the p-Laplacian (or any other nonlinear operators of similar class) perturbed by nonlinear terms and forced by rather irregular periodic in time excitations (including what we call abrupt changes). These equations may model problems for which, aside from the presence of the kind of nonlinear dissipation associated to the p-Laplacian, other nonlinear and not necessarily dissipative mechanisms occur. We look for boundedness conditions on these periodic excitations and nonlinear perturbations sufficient to guarantee the existence of periodic responses (solutions) of the same period.
Levantamento fitossociológico de um campo limpo da Esta??o Experimental Agron?mica, UFRGS, Guaíba, RS: 1a etapa
Boldrini, Ilsi Iob;Miotto, Silvia Teresinha S;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1987, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061987000100006
Abstract: a phytosociological survey was undertaken during october-november 1984, on a "open grassland" area under grazing. the qualitative survey of 16 quadrats has yelded 28 botanical families, 76 genera and 112 species with relevance to the gramineae (27 species), compositae (25 species), rubiaceae (9 species), cyperaceae (8 species), leguminosae (7 species) and umbelliferae (5 species). for the quantitative survey, presence, absolute frequency, relative frequency, relative coverage and relative importance were evaluated.
Phytosociology and natural subtropical grassland communities on a granitic hill in southern Brazil
Setubal, Robberson Bernal;Boldrini, Ilsi Iob;
Rodriguésia , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S2175-78602012000300003
Abstract: a phytosociological survey was carried out in a study area located at serra do sudeste, southern brazil, where forests and grasslands are distributed in a mosaic, seeking to unravel diversity patterns in four different grassland communities. grassland management traditionally adopted by the local population is characterized by burning practices that aim to eliminate woody species, delaying the forest expansion process that is favored by the extant climate. the number of plots distributed per community was as follows: rocky grasslands (17), dry grasslands (33), moist grasslands (15) and marshy grasslands (5). different numbers of plots were used due to the natural conditions of these communities, with highest cover for dry grasslands, followed by rocky, moist and marshy grasslands. data analyses consisted of calculating community indexes and parameters and exploratory multivariate analysis. we verified that c. 15% of species among the 177 registered taxa were highly dominant in the constitution of the vegetation matrix in all communities, whereas most of the species showed low frequency and cover values. rocky and dry grasslands showed higher similarity and diversity indexes than moist and marshy grasslands. we concluded that the large number of rare or intermediate-frequency species is decisive for the high diversity found in these grasslands.

Microsculpture of cypselae surface of Baccharis sect. Caulopterae (Asteraceae) from Brazil
Schneider, Angelo Alberto,Boldrini, Ilsi Iob
Anales del Jardín Botánico de Madrid , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of this study was to characterize the microsculpture of the cypselae surface of the Brazilian species of Baccharis L. sect. Caulopterae DC. (Asteraceae), and to compare this data it with the taxonomy of the group. Scanning electron microscopy was used to examine the cypsela surface of 25 taxa of Baccharis sect. Caulopterae from Brazil. According to the micromorphology of the cypsela surface, the species can be classified into five distinct groups. The cypselae of the species of the Baccharis trimera species complex (B. crispa, B. cylindrica, B. jocheniana, B. myriocephala, and B. trimera) share the same micromorphological features.
Existence and regularity of solutions of a phase field model for solidification with convection of pure materials in two dimensions
Jose Luiz Boldrini,Cristina Lucia Dias Vaz
Electronic Journal of Differential Equations , 2003,
Abstract: We study the existence and regularity of weak solutions of a phase field type model for pure material solidification in presence of natural convection. We assume that the non-stationary solidification process occurs in a two dimensional bounded domain. The governing equations of the model are the phase field equation coupled with a nonlinear heat equation and a modified Navier-Stokes equation. These equations include buoyancy forces modelled by Boussinesq approximation and a Carman-Koseny term to model the flow in mushy regions. Since these modified Navier-Stokes equations only hold in the non-solid regions, which are not known a priori, we have a free boundary-value problem.
