Abstract: health services have developed along with the social sciences and technology, evolving from something magical, to the rejection of sick persons, to the naturalization of illness, and to the introduction of economic theories which perpetuate health services and convert them into sources of wealth. the economic crisis makes the topics of cost, efficiency and quality in the production of health services extremely interesting, and in this vein professionals in the areas of medicine, economics and related areas have initiated a joint search for the potential benefits to be had, recognizing their importance in decision-making at all levels. this article gathers results of research the objective of which was to determine the quality of the services rendered in the private health sector in maracaibo municipality, zulia state. survey techniques were utilized in the compilation of information including the application of a questionaire and direct observation of 385 health service users in four medical centers. the results demonstrated that clients choose a medical center in their search for a solution of their health problem based on a series of expectations in relation to additional services, which are taken into consideration in the measurement of quality, however the effect of its cost also influences client fidelity.
W(h)ither the Full Season: An Empirical Model for Predicting the Duration of New Television Series’ First Season  [PDF]

Abstract: Television seasons have gotten shorter and shorter over the past few decades. This has been especially true for new dramatic television series where the norm has dropped to thirteen episodes from almost double that figure twenty years ago. Somewhat surprisingly, there is a dearth of empirical research on this question. In this study, we build on recent research in the field of cultural economics to test the effect of three factors on the duration of new television series’ first season—the originality of the series’ premise, the track record of its creators, and the cognitive complexity of the pilot episode script. As expected, we find that in a sample of 165 new dramatic series debuting in the nine most recently completed seasons, these three factors—both individually and in combination—positively impact both the number of episodes of a new series and the likelihood that new series gets a “full” first season.

Abstract: the task of improving access to information is receiving more and more attention, specially in modern business, where processes based on information as a resource in an automatic and re-usable manner, are required. in this sense, this article constitutes a first approximation to the area of data mining and its objective is to examine and describe the techniques and tools emerging in this area of research, based on a theoretical-qualitative reflection that contributes to a greater understanding of the potential and limitations of data mining as a support for enterprise decision making. among the benefits that the technique offers is the possibility of elevating competence levels in businesses, based on a quick identification of, processing and extraction of information that is truly important, as well as discovering knowledge and patterns in data bases. its ease of use makes it applicable to any area of the knowledge. as limitations, the need to dedicate effort to the establishment of measures of evaluation of the result derived from the application of the data-mining process, as well as the challenge that represents the analysis of data that change in real time are among the most outstanding.
Gestión de la información a través de la Web Semántica: Iniciativas y dificultades

Abstract: nowadays, traditional search mechanisms produce lists of results that offer little or no information about existing semantic relationships among documents. on the other hand, the agents of knowledge spend a considerable quantity of time checking sources and indexes to discover the way in which the documents relate to one another. however, the work of the agents begins to be productive only when they begin to locate the similarities and the differences among these pieces of information that allow them to build relationships to create new knowledge. starting from this description, the purpose of this article is to highlight the support that web semantics offers to the information management initiatives in this area and the difficulties that the new web faces. the research methodology is devoted to the analysis of content as the main tool wherein certain theoretical categories are derived. these are referred to as: web semantics, internet and administration of information. the article concludes pointing out that information is generally dispersed along the web and/or the intranets in the form of resources, and through web semantics its processing can be facilitated in order to generate web sites that adapt and configure to the different user profiles, preferences and requirements.
Satisfacción del cliente de la consulta externa de pediatría en clínicas privadas

Abstract: the objective of this study is to determine the level of client satisfaction with pediatric consults functioning at private clinics in the carirubana municipality in the state of falcón. the research was transversal, non-experimental, quantitative and descriptive with a field design. the population corresponded to people who requested service at the pediatric outpatient consults functioning in the following clinics: the polyclinic for specializations, falcon clinic and the family clinic. the sample was intentional, composed of 64 clients. a questionnaire with 44 items was designed and applied to the informing units or patient companions who received the medical service. according to the results obtained, the client socio-demographic profile corresponded to: a mother between 18 and 30 years of age with higher education studies, who recurs to consults more than twice a year to monitor the healthy growth of a child, who comes from an urban environment, travels to the clinic in her own or in a public vehicle, who is not referred to the consult by a company or insurance plan and who chooses the consulting services through the recommendation of family or friends. a majority of patients perceived the clinic?s performance as positive, fulfilling expectations. they expressed satisfaction with most aspects of the services and demonstrated some traits of loyalty.

Abstract: this article presents a theoretical and practical approximation of the aspects to be considered for the creation of a knowledge network model for the faculty of punto fijo of the university of zulia, which is supported by a communication model based on internet. this device is used to communicate with intra university departments and with the community, the business sector and the government. the investigation allows concluding that to give operability to the network, it is necessary to create a knowledge management unit, for which vision, mission, objectives and leader profile, situation analysis, and incorporation strategy establishment must be defined. likewise, a physical and technological platform is needed as a basis for the support of planning, programming, evaluation and administrative network control as a hypertext structure processes.
Los lenguajes de representación semántica y su uso en la construcción de ontologías

Abstract: this article proposes certain considerations related to the language of description of ontologies for the semantic web, in which even when it is easy to find, share and integrate information and services, it is possible to get more usage out of the available resources. to achieve this goal, the semantic web proposes a description of the resources available there by means of formal or marked languages which permit processing the content, reasoning with the same, combining and logically deducing the information to resolve daily problems automatically, as well as its application in different activities related with the economic sector, offering a permanent management service, and producing and offering quality information. the research methodology applied was analysis of content as the main tool, from which we derived certain theoretical categories referring to: formal or marked language, ontological languages, and webb semantics. finally the principal hypothetical results were those elements that lead us to propose documentary reasoning.
Gestión de la información a través de la Web Semántica: Iniciativas y dificultades

Abstract: Actualmente los motores de búsqueda tradicionales devuelven listas de resultados que ofrecen escasa o nula información acerca de las relaciones semánticas existentes entre los documentos. Por su parte, los gestores del conocimiento gastan una cantidad considerable de tiempo revisando las fuentes e índices para descubrir el modo en que se relacionan entre sí los documentos. Sin embargo, el trabajo de los gestores comienza a ser productivo sólo cuando éstos comienzan a localizar las similitudes y las diferencias entre partes de información que les permiten construir relaciones para crear nuevo conocimiento. A partir de esta descripción se pretende en este artículo, destacar el apoyo que puede llegar a ofrecer la Web Semántica a la Gestión de la información, iniciativas en el área y algunas dificultades a las que se enfrenta la nueva Web. La metodología de investigación está dedicada al análisis del contenido como principal herramienta en donde se derivan algunas categorías teóricas referidas a: la Web Semántica, Internet y la Gestión de la información. El artículo concluye se alando que la información está generalmente dispersa a lo largo de la Web y/o las Intranets en forma de recursos, y a través de la Web Semántica se puede facilitar su procesamiento, para generar sitios Web que se adapten y configuren a los diferentes perfiles de usuario, preferencias y requerimientos.
Diagnóstico de la mezcla de promoción de los programas de posgrado en las universidades públicas del estado Falcón

Abstract: El presente estudio se enfocó en diagnosticar la mezcla de promoción en los Programas de Postgrado en las universidades públicas del Estado Falcón, abordando la caracterización del target group, la descripción de la mezcla de promoción y la caracterización de los canales personales e impersonales, justificándose en la necesidad de determinar la situación actual de la actividad de marketing que se realiza, para facilitar la labor gerencial de quienes la conducen. La investigación fue de tipo descriptiva, enmarcada dentro de la modalidad de proyecto factible. Se aplicó un censo poblacional a las unidades informantes, conformadas por los Coordinadores de los Programas de Postgrado, complementándose con la revisión de materiales promocionales. Como resultado de la caracterización del target group, se obtuvo que los encargados de realizar las actividades de promoción deben revisar la información que suministran a través de los diferentes canales personales e impersonales, a efectos de hacer que el mensaje sea mas efectivo. Además el estudio reveló que está claramente identificado el segmento del mercado y las características, comportamientos y necesidades de los individuos que solicitan cursar estudios de postgrado en las universidades públicas del estado Falcón. De igual manera, se determinó que es posible analizar y dise ar la mezcla de promoción del mercadeo educativo a través de la Venta personal, Publicidad, Promoción, Relaciones Públicas y los diferentes canales empleados para hacer llegar el mensaje. En cuanto al nivel de satisfacción de los encargados de dirigir y coordinar las actividades de promoción de los estudios de cuarto y quinto nivel, se considera que se satisface medianamente. Finalmente, se concluye que universidades deben aprovechar su valor de marca debido a que ésta representa el mayor valor institucional, al momento de promocionar sus productos educativos.
