%0 Journal Article %T Diferen£¿as culturais percebidas por brasileiros no uso da l¨ªngua inglesa no exterior e seu tratamento em livros did¨¢ticos %A Nogueira %A Alessandra Sartori %J Revista Brasileira de Lingu¨ªstica Aplicada %D 2012 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %R 10.1590/S1984-63982012005000018 %X that language and culture are inseparable is broadly accepted in the field of language teaching. this study was thus designed to explore the relation between language and culture by examining anecdotes involving cultural conflicts collected from brazilians in an english-speaking country. here we analyze four (out of seven) questionnaires, for which respondent answers unexpectedly related culture to linguistic issues, such as pronunciation, intonation, grammar, and vocabulary. we then selected, from some textbooks, the linguistic categories detected in the anecdotes, aiming to verify whether there are cultural aspects involved in the way these linguistic issues are presented. our results suggest how the inseparability of language and culture could be explored in classroom when teaching language structure and pronunciation. %K efl %K culture %K identity %K textbook. %U http://www.scielo.br/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S1984-63982012005000018&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
