%X the increasing prevalence of obesity in children and the parallel increasing incidence of asthma has led us to propose that the two processes could be related. several studies have shown a time effect between obesogenic states and the subsequent development of asthma. a dose - response effect has also been reported, establishing a direct relationship between the degree of obesity and the severity of asthma in these subjects. it has also been demonstrated that weight loss (dieting) reduces asthma symptoms. this relationship appears to be explained by immune, inflammatory, hormonal, genetic, nutritional and mechanical factors as well as physical activity. the aim of this study is to provide a thorough analysis of the main mechanisms involved in the onset of asthma in the obese pediatric patient.
