%0 Journal Article %T Par¨¢lisis peri¨®dica tirot¨®xica hipopotas¨¦mica %A Ruiz %A P.M %A Pramparo %A S.E %J Revista argentina de endocrinolog£¿-a y metabolismo %D 2011 %I Scientific Electronic Library Online %X thyrotoxic hypokalemic periodic paralisis (thpp) is a rare complication associated with hyperthyroidism, especially among caucasians. it is most common in the asian population. the thpp is characterized by episodes of muscle weakness and hypokalemia. clinical features of hyperthyroidism in patients with thpp may be subtle. we report a case of a 24-year-old man who presented with ascending lower extremity weakness after drinking. the patient was diagnosed with graves disease and thyrotoxic hypokalemic periodic paralysis. treatment with potassium chloride, methimazole and propranolol was initiated and he was discharged from hospital in stable condition for ambulatory follow-up. %K periodic paralysis %K thyrotoxicosis %K hypokalemia. %U http://www.scielo.org.ar/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&pid=S1851-30342011000400004&lng=en&nrm=iso&tlng=en
