%X in metaphysics a.9 aristotle classifies as "less accurate" three of the platonic arguments for ideas surveyed in his treatise on ideas (peri ide¨­n). the standard interpretation of the peri ide¨­n claims that these arguments are less accurate because they are only valid to postulate aristotelian universals, but not to postulate ideas. in this paper i intend to call into question this interpretation with respect to one of these arguments: the one over many argument. i claim that this argument, although not valid to postulate ideas, it is not valid either to postulate aristotelian universals. this argument is valid only for a conclusion that is neutral between platonism and aristotelianism about universals: that there are other entities apart from the particulars.
