%X the social and economic uncertainty generated by the rapid urbanization and the dynamic territory order, constitutes the biggest challenge to the contemporary city in terms of the associated policies to the territory in a competition scenario. throughout the analysis of two topics, approached from a transversal scope; (1) the theoretical approximation to the city concept that explains its essential features and; (2) the contextualization of the latin american city, that in terms of its transformation; searches for the conjecture of colombian city tendencies. this article offers an analysis about the evolution of the cities and the challenges that latin american cities have to face, emphasizing in the latin american city and bringing to coalition judging elements that are observed in the urban policy in the specific context of medellin city.
