%X the objective of this article is to evaluate the social and economic impact of the illegal money collection companies so-called "pyramids" in the city of popayan and in the lower region of the cauca department under the context of a recent world financial crisis. in this sense, the document initially uses secondary information in order to develop a situational descriptive analysis, and hereinafter the construction of two indicators that are based in econometric measurements that include own vectors for analyzing the behavior of the illegal money collection and the behavior of the world economic crisis in the region. these are contrasted and it can be observed that while the country fell into a financial crisis, the pyramids protected the economy of cauca¡äs department, but after their aggressive falls, the effect was much worse in the regional economy where the regional gdp fell more than the national gdp.
