Pain is the main cause of limitation of the motion range in the humeroscapular joint which results in limitation of general physical activity of the patient, professional occupation as well as of social and family life. The aim of this work is to evaluate the effects of locally applied cold in patients with painful shoulder syndrome. The research group consisted of 38 patients (25 women, 13 men), aged between 30-77 with the diagnosed painful shoulder syndrome. The patients were divided into two groups depending on indications and contraindications for the therapy with cold (CO2). In addition, the applied exercises were compatible with therapeutic indications. In all the patients the following examinations were carried outtwice: pain evaluation according to the modified Laitinen questionnaire and the visual analogue scale (VAS), assessment of active mobility range in the humeroscapular joints by means of the goniometric method. Conclusions: 1. cold is a factor which significantly reduces pain in patients with the painful shoulder syndrome and facilitates kinesitherapy. 2. cold combined with kinesitherapy is an effective therapeutic method which allows increasing of the motion range in the affected joint and facilitating carrying out basic motor activities. %K painful shoulder syndrome %K local cold therapy with the use of carbon dioxide (CO2) %U http://versita.metapress.com/content/a39n55085641008v/?p=9126d7c0c8724a64ae108035a5df595f&pi=2
