The physical processes for the effect of zonal difference of SST anomalies in that oceanic area on the summer rainfall over the lower and middle reaches of Yangtze River are discussed. It is suggested that different types of zonal SST anomaly distributions may result in different variations in position and intensity of main components of the Indian and the east Asian monsoon systems, and lead to different distributions of the ITCZ and subtropical high over the western North Pacific, the summer rainfall in East China, through the interaction and adjustment between the two monsoon systems. %K Zonal difference of SST anomalies %K Rainfall and monsoon flow
