%X This essay looks at the path of theatres in natural environments within the more general context of experimentation in contemporary theatre. The hendiadys ¡®city and country¡¯ is assumed, in the first part,to question how they place themselves in the complex dynamics of the local and the global. The second part focuses on those devices that underpine their aesthetics: their strategies for expanding the perception of the living, beyond the human, sweep from the narrative level, to the mise-en-sc¨¨ne, to the level of corporeal presence.
