%X Las reflexiones sobre la pr芍ctica de la traducci車n del Renacimiento revelan que en ese per赤odo aparecieron las ideas 〞que todav赤a hoy gu赤an esta actividad〞 basadas en la existencia de una unidad de pensamiento y de actuaci車n, en una teor赤a de la traducci車n. Para una buena lectura de aquellos textos es imprescindible el estudio de la concepci車n del lenguaje entonces vigente que era una parte de la ret車rica cl芍sica. En ella se origin車 el pensamiento renacentista sobre la traducci車n definido en este art赤culo como  teor赤a elocutiva de la traducci車n . Renaissance reflections on translation practice reveal not only that the foundations of contemporary translation theory were laid during that period, but also that there was a unity of thought and practice, in other words a theory of translation. A proper interpretation of these texts inevitably requires an examination of the then current concept of language, as formulated in Classical rhetoric. This is key to our understanding of Renaissance thinking on translation, and will provide the framework for our analysis of the period＊s thinking on the topic, according to what might be termed as the ※elocutive theory of translation§ in the Renaissance.
