%X Se discute la presencia de la noci車n de autopoiesis, desarrollada por el bi車logo Humberto Maturana y colaboradores, en las ciencias sociales. La indagaci車n aborda la adopci車n de un concepto referido estrictamente a un fen車meno biol車gico y su difusi車n desde un pa赤s perif谷rico -Chile- al plano de las teor赤as sociales universalistas. La presentaci車n se organiza en tres partes: la primera da cuenta de la emergencia de la teor赤a de la autopoiesis, y tiene por prop車sito indicar el contexto y condiciones que favorecieron su aceptaci車n en las ciencias sociales, particularmente en la aplicaci車n que realiza Niklas Luhmann; seguidamente se presentan los resultados de un an芍lisis aplicado a bases de datos de publicaciones cient赤ficas recientes y que permiten especificar la generalizaci車n del concepto; finalmente, desarrollamos algunas hip車tesis para explicar este caso excepcional de difusi車n del pensamiento cient赤fico latinoamericano en la teor赤a social. The authors discuss the presence of the notion of autopoiesis, developed by biologist Humberto Maturana and his colleagues, in the social sciences. The study looks at the adoption of a concept that referred strictly to a biological phenomenon and its dissemination from a peripheral country (Chile) to the plane of universalist social theories. The presentation is organized in three parts: the first deals with the emergence of the theory of autopoiesis and aims to pinpoint the context and conditions that favored its being accepted in the social sciences, particularly in Niklas Luhmann's application; the second part presents the results of an analysis applied to the data bases of recent scientific publications that make it possible to specify the generalization of the concept; and finally, the authors develop certain hypotheses to explain this exceptional case of the dissemination of Latin American scientific thought in social theory.
