%X During the last decades, we have seen that communication in general is changing and becoming more multimodal in the sense that various modalities such as language, pictures, sound and materiality are combined and integrated. These tendencies, which are often referred to as the multimodal turn, lead to an increased need for field-specific and advanced knowledge of how to work with multimodal creative practices.  This article explores how aspects from the theoretical framework of social semiotics may be applied in the field of creative multimodal practices and learning.  In the article, we present some epistemological links  between social semiotics and contemporary relational craft. Some theoretical concepts are suggested and explored through examples from creative and didactical projects. Our conclusion is that the suggested theoretical concepts can be used to enhance critical thinking in creative processes and promote more precise communication between craft artists, teachers, critics, and representatives of other creative practices. Dei siste ti ra er prega av ei multimodal vending som inneber at mange typar kommunikasjon g r f re seg gjennom at fleire ulike uttrykksm tar samverkar, slik som verbalspr k, bilete, lyd og materialitet. Endringane har f rt til eit auka behov for kunnskap om korleis ein kan arbeide bevisst og kritisk med multimodale skapande prosessar. Denne artikkelen unders kjer korleis element fr  det teoretiske rammeverket sosialsemiotikk kan nyttast i arbeid med multimodale skapande prosessar og l reprosessar. Vi gjer greie for nokre erkjenningsteoretiske samanhengar mellom sosialsemiotikken og samtidas relasjonelle kunsthandverk, og p  denne bakgrunnen utviklar vi nokre teoretiske omgrep som kan nyttast i multimodale skapande praksisar. Artikkelen viser vidare korleis omgrepa kan fungere i kunstprosjekt og didaktiske prosjekt. Eit hovudresultat er at omgrepa kan fungere bevisstgjerande og gi spr k og artikulasjon undervegs i skapande prosessar, noko som vidare kan betre moglegheitene for kritisk tenking, etterpr vbar refleksjon og kommunikasjon b de hj  forskaren, kunstnaren, l raren og studenten.
