Even with the greatimportance of these documents they have notalways been given the due attention. The areaof Library and Information Science hasincreasingly been striving to propose newforms of image representation in view of theorganization and preservation of memory. Thisarticle aims to draw attention to the need forinformational treatment of photographs aswell as the necessity of organization anddescription of the photos, so that there isimprovement in information retrieval. This isan exploratory research and it relies on theliterature method for the conduct of thisresearch. The Panofsky-Shatford imageanalysis was used, and, as an appropriate toolfor indexing, archiving and retrieving imageinformation, the software Kalimages ispresented. As a result it was observed that theuse of this software helps and improvestreatment and organization of photographiccollections. However, it was realized that it isnot well known and it is expensive.
