The developing resistance of infection causing microorganisms to the antibiotics became a driving force for investigation of alternative antimicrobial agents. In this study, antimicrobial activity of ethanol and water extract of dried Solanum melongena fruit pericarp were determined against some gram positive, gram negative and some fungi. Solanum melongena is a common and popular plant worlwide and it has no side effect known. The investigation was accomplished by well diffusion method and the ethanol was more effective solvent for the extraction of active agents. The addition of NaCl (3%) improved antimicrobial activity slightly. Among the fungi tested, Tyromyces palustris was the only one sensitive to extracts. On the other hand, Enterobacter aerogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed the maximum sensitivity. %K Solanum melongena %K Eggplant %K Antimicrobial activity %K Ethanol exraction. %U http://fbd.beun.edu.tr/index.php/zkufbd/article/view/57/105
