The experimental design was completely randomized and consisted of three treatments and three replicates. In one treatment tilapias were cultured in the presence of Chlorella sp., in another one treatment fish were cultured in a green water from a fish growth tank and in the control tilapias were cultured in a natural food free water (clear water). During all the experiment tilapias were fed with commercial ration containing male hormone. Through the regression line between the values of optical density and cell density of the cultivation water, it was always possible to demonstrate a Chlorella sp. higher consumption compared to the water green microalgae consumption which was almost entirely (95%) composed by the genus Microcystis. Performance and survival data statistical analysis showed that fish cultured in the presence of Chlorella sp. achieved significantly higher results. The highest mortality was observed when tilapias were culture in the green water. The use of Chlorella sp. as a food supplement on tilapias larviculture maximized fish performance, while the consumption of microalgae from the genus Microcystis or a natural food free culture showed a negative influence on animals performance.
