%X La familia Meliaceae constituye un grupo de plantas de gran importancia en los tr¨®picos. Este trabajo actualiza el estado de conocimiento de la familia, a partir de las colecciones de diferentes herbarios del pa¨ªs (VEN, PORT, MER, MY, MYF, TFAV), teniendo como referencia la del Herbario Nacional de Venezuela (VEN). La familia Meliaceae est¨¢ representada por diez g¨¦neros con 46 especies. Trichilia es el g¨¦nero con mayor n¨²mero de especies (24) y Swietenia macrophylla la especie con mayor n¨²mero de espec¨ªmenes (165). Trichilia, Guarea y Swietenia conforman g¨¦neros m¨¢s ampliamente representados y distribuidos en el pa¨ªs, principalmente para los estados Bol¨ªvar, Amazonas y Barinas. La distribuci¨®n altitudinal var¨ªa entre 0 y 2800 m, Cedrela y Guarea presentaron mayor variaci¨®n altitudinal, mientras que Azadirachta, Sandoricum y Schmardaea fueron m¨¢s restringidos. Los bosques semicaducifolios y nublados presentaron mayor cantidad de g¨¦neros. Trichilia y Guarea ocuparon mayor variedad de ambientes. Se elabor¨® una clave taxon¨®mica para los g¨¦neros de meli¨¢ceas con material de herbario. The Meliaceae family is a very important group of plants in the tropics. This paper updates the state of knowledge of the family based on collections deposited in Venezuelan herbaria (VEN, PORT, MER, MY, MYF, TFAV), specially the ones available in the National Herbarium of Venezuela (VEN). The Meliaceae family is represented by ten genera and 46 species. Trichilia is the genus with the largest number of species (24), and Swietenia macrophylla the taxon with the largest number of specimens (165). Trichilia, Guarea and Swietenia are the most widely represented and distributed genera in the country, mainly in Bol¨ªvar, Amazonas and Barinas States. They grow between 0 and 2800 m asl, Cedrela and Guarea showed a wide range of altitudinal variation, while Azadirachta, Sandoricum and Schmardaea were more restricted. Cloud and semideciduous forests presented the largest number of genera, while Trichilia and Guarea occupied the widest variety of environments. A taxonomic key for Venezuelan genera are presented, based on herbarium material.
