%X Introducci車n: el envejecimiento poblacional y la dependencia son t谷rminos de mucha preocupaci車n en los pa赤ses desarrollados. La atenci車n hospitalaria al paciente anciano mediante el modelo tradicional no permite abordar todos sus problemas. La atenci車n a este tipo de pacientes requiere de un instrumento que contemple su estado de salud f赤sico, funcional, social y mental. Las evidencias cient赤ficas y los expertos sanitarios coinciden en que la valoraci車n geri芍trica integral (VGI) es la herramienta b芍sica y fundamental en la priorizaci車n de problemas e intervenci車n en la atenci車n al anciano fr芍gil y geri芍trico. Objetivo: describir y analizar los componentes de la valoraci車n geri芍trica integral en el 芍mbito sanitario para mejorar la detecci車n y prevenci車n del declive funcional en el anciano fr芍gil hospitalizado. M谷todo: este estudio se lleva a cabo mediante una revisi車n bibliogr芍fica en las principales bases de datos: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Joanna Brings, Cinahl, Cuiden, Cuidatge, Lilacs, IME, Enfispo, en el periodo de diciembre del 2009 a enero del 2012. Conclusiones: la revisi車n bibliogr芍fica demuestra la utilidad de la VGI en la atenci車n al paciente fr芍gil. La enfermera, como parte del equipo interdisciplinar y como gestora directa de los cuidados, requiere de formaci車n espec赤fica para proporcionar la mejor calidad asistencial. Background: population aging and dependency are terms of great concern in developed countries. Hospital care for elderly patients using the traditional model can not address all their problems. Attention to this type of patient requires an instrument providing for their physical health status, functional, social and mental health. The scientific evidence and health experts agree that the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is the basic and fundamental tool in the prioritization of problems and intervention for the care of frail elderly and geri角tric patients. Objective: to describe and analyze the components of comprehensive geriatric assessment in health, to improve detection and prevention of functional decline in hospitalized frail elderly. Method: this study was conducted by reviewing major bibliographic databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Joanna Brings, Cinahl, Cuiden, Cuidatge, Lilacs, EMI Enfispo in the period December 2009 to January 2012. Conclusions: the literature review shows the usefulness of the CGA in the care of frail patients. The nurse as part of the interdisciplinary team and as direct care manager requires a specific training to provide the best quality of care.
