%X Current debate about the concept of ethnicity is broached in this article, giving validity to its use just as the Greeks did. The symbology of the weapons, especially of shields, as a defining ethnic emblem of the poleis, the anfictionias or the states is analysed. In many cases these emblems were not real objects but rather ones that were created based on a heroic past or on the sacra of a divinity. Special interpretative interest is given to the Lusitanian shilds that figure on the Roman coins minted in Hispania under Augustus. Se aborda la discusi¨®n actual sobre el concepto de etnicidad dando validez a su uso tal y como lo hicieron los griegos. Se analiza la simbolog¨ªa de las armas, especialmente la del escudo, como emblema ¨¦tnico definitorio tanto de las poleis, las anfictionias o los estados. En muchos casos estos emblemas no han sido objetos reales sino creados a partir de un pasado heroico o de los sacra de una divinidad. Especial inter¨¦s se adjudica a los escudos lusitanos, figurados en monedas romanas acu adas en Hispania bajo Augusto. [fr] Cet article, qui s¡¯ins¨¨re dans le d¨¦bat actuel sur le concept d¡¯ethnicit¨¦, reconnna t une validit¨¦ ¨¤ celui-ci, ¨¤ la mani¨¨re dont l¡¯entendaient les Grecs. Le symbolisme des armes est analys¨¦, notamment celui du bouclier en tant qu¡¯embl¨¨me ethnique qui d¨¦finit aussi bien les poleis que les amphictyonies ou les ¨¦tats. Tr¨¨s souvent, ces embl¨¨mes ne correspondaient pas ¨¤ des objets r¨¦els, mais ¨¦taient forg¨¦s ¨¤ partir d¡¯un pass¨¦ h¨¦ro que ou des sacra d¡¯une divinit¨¦. Une attention particuli¨¨re est port¨¦e aux boucliers lusitaniens fi gurant sur les monnaies romaines frapp¨¦es en Hispania ¨¤ l¡¯¨¦poque d¡¯Auguste.
