%0 Journal Article %T The News Picture In a Child¡¯s Mind %A Tš¹lay £¿eker %A Rengim Sine %J Global Media Journal : Turkish Edition %D 2012 %I Yeditepe University %X The purpose of this study, which dwells on how children perceive the messages on television screens, is to evaluate the efficient role of the news, among the main messages of television, while the child¡¯s knowledge of the world is being shaped. Within this context, the study was conducted on the children of 7 years old that were the first grade primary school students within the city borders of Konya, and the way they defined news was questioned. 174 children from 4 different schools were included in the study. The children were asked to draw the picture of the news in order to identify the image, which came to their mind when the word ¡°news¡± was uttered.
