%X Chomsky (desde 1959) e Pinker (desde in¨ªcio de 1990) t¨ºm-se envolvido num debate virtual sobre quest es relativas ¨¤ natureza da linguagem humana, seu percurso evolutivo, a forma como ¨¦ adquirida e de que modo se desenvolve. Ainda que ambos representem uma compreens o biol¨®gica da linguagem, Chomsky com a ideia de uma gram¨¢tica universal de base inata e Pinker com a vis o de uma forma de instinto em evolu  o, muitas s o as diverg¨ºncias entre eles, culminando com um dos mais recentes confrontos expressos, centralmente, em Chomsky, Hauser, & Fitch (CHF) (2002), Fitch, Hauser & Chomsky (FHC) (2005) vs Pinker & Jackendoff (PJ) (2005a) e Jackendoff & Pinker (JP) (2005b) Os pontos em conflito, especialmente sobre a forma como a linguagem emerge na esp¨¦cie humana, provocam impactos sobre os rumos da Lingu¨ªstica e da ¨¢rea da Psicologia Evolucion¨¢ria dedicada ¨¤ linguagem natural. O texto que se segue descreve e avalia o debate em pauta em seus aspectos mais espec¨ªficos e em suas consequ¨ºncias mais relevantes. Chomsky and Pinker have been involved in a debate on issues concerning the nature of human language, its history, how it is acquired and how it develops. Although both represent a biological understanding of language, Chomsky with the idea of an innate universal grammar and Pinker with the vision of an evolving form of instinct, there are many differences between them, culminating in one of the most recent clashes cast, centrally, in Chomsky, Hauser & Fitch (CHF) (2002) e Fitch, Hauser & Chomsky (FHC) (2005) vs Pinker & Jackendoff (PJ) (2005a) e Jackendoff & Pinker (JP) (2005b). The items in dispute, especially about how language emerges in the human species, has caused impacts on the direction of the field of Linguistics and Evolutionary Psychology devoted to natural language. The following text describes and evaluates the debate on the agenda regarding their most specific aspects and most important consequences.
