Esta especie se considera una plaga importante en pasturas y como potencial para la ca a de az迆car. Debido a esto se plane車 evaluar, bajo condiciones de campo, en un cultivo de ca a de az迆car, diferentes cepas del hongo Metarhizium anisopliae (CCMa0906, CCMa1008, CeMa9236 y CoMa01) seleccionadas en estudios previos. Inicialmente se realiz車 un experimento en un cultivo de ca a para seleccionar la cepa de mayor eficacia en dosis de 1,0 x10(13) conidias/ha sobre ninfas de A. varia. Luego, en dos experimentos de campo, se evalu車 la cepa seleccionada (CeMa9236) aplicada en diferentes dosis (1 x 10(12), 5 x 10(12), 1 x 10(13), 5 x 10(13) conidias/ha). Se encontr車 que la mortalidad increment車 con la dosis. Con 5 x 10(13) conidias/ha, se obtuvo la mayor mortalidad en los dos experimentos (66% y 72%), sin embargo para prop車sitos de control en lotes comerciales de ca a de az迆car infestados con A. varia, se deber赤an evaluar dosis inferiores (5 x 10(12) a 1 x 10(13) conidias/ha). In June 2007, the spittlebug Aeneolamia varia (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) was found in sugar cane crops located in the rural zone of the municipality of Yotoco, Cauca Valley, Colombia. This insect is considered an important pest of pastures and a potential pest of sugar cane crops. Due to this situation, we planned to evaluate, under field conditions, in a sugar cane field, different strains of Metarhizium anisopliae (CCMa0906, CCMa1008, CoMa01 and CeMa9236), selected in previous studies. A first experiment was conducted in a cane field to select the strain with greatest efficacy at the dose of 1.0 x 10(13) conidia/ha on nymphs of A. varia. Then, in two other field experiments, the selected strain (CeMa9236) was evaluated when applied at different dosages (1 x 10(12), 5 x 10(12), 1 x 10(13), 5 x 10(13) conidia/ha). It was found that mortality increased with dosage.
