%X Introducci車n: La etnograf赤a se entiende desde tres perspectivas: enfoque, m谷todo y texto. En el campo de la salud, se puede usar no solo desde el punto de vista del proceso de investigaci車n, sino tambi谷n desde el mismo momento de la consulta m谷dica, el diagn車stico y el tratamiento. El paciente valora que sea escuchado y entendido como un sujeto que tiene una historia y que est芍 envuelto en una cultura que se relaciona con su estado y las respuestas a lo que le sucede. Metodolog赤a: An芍lisis de la literatura concerniente a la etnograf赤a, observaci車n participante y relaci車n de la investigaci車n cualitativa y la salud. Resultados: Existe diversidad en las opiniones y posturas acerca de la etnograf赤a, de su validez y utilidad, as赤 como tambi谷n en la consideraci車n del m谷todo y las t谷cnicas que lo nutren. La etnograf赤a es un m谷todo integrativo que se puede nutrir de m迆ltiples herramientas para la recolecci車n, an芍lisis e interpretaci車n de datos. Lo anterior hace que sea una opci車n para la evaluaci車n del individuo por parte del profesional de la medicina. Conclusiones: La etnograf赤a brinda la oportunidad de acercarse a la realidad de un individuo o de un grupo de individuos con el objetivo de obtener informaci車n acerca de la pregunta bajo investigaci車n, as赤 como su comprensi車n e interpretaci車n. Introduction: Ethnography is understood from three perspectives: approach, methodology and text. In the health field, ethnography can be used not only from the standpoint of the research process, but also from the very instances of medical consultation, diagnose and treatment. The pacient appreciates the fact of being heard and understood as a subject who has her/his own story and is involved in a particular culture related to her/his own status and to the effects a caused by life experiences. Methods: Analysis of the literature related to ethnography, participanting observation and an relationship between health and qualitative research. Results: There is a diversity of opinions and attitudes about ethnography, its validity and usefulness as well as in considerations related to its method and the techniques that nourish it. Ethnography is an integrative approach that may resorty to multiple tools for collecting, analyzingand interpretingthe data. Therefore, ethnography constitutes an option for the physician when performing individual assessment. Conclusions: Ethnography provides an opportunity to approach the reality of an individual or group of individuals in order to obtain information about the matter under investigation, its understanding and interpretation.
