%X O artigo examina temas, m谷todos e tend那ncias anal赤ticas dominantes na an芍lise da hist車ria social e da ci那ncia social produzidas na Inglaterra e nos Estados Unidos a partir da Segunda Guerra Mundial, apontando a proemin那ncia no debate de duas grandes vertentes, o marxismo e a teoria da moderniza  o. O autor reflete sobre achados e limites de ambas as correntes. This article examines the mainstream themes, methods and analytical trends in social history and social science from Britain and the United States since the Second World War. It highlights the predominance of two main theories in the debate: Marxism and modernization theory. The author evaluates the main findings and limits of both theories.
