%X Desde las primeras navegaciones exploratorias del estrecho de Magallanes en su penetraci車n oriente-occidente sus tripulaciones conocieron las peque as islas que emergen de la secci車n central del gran canal transpuesta la Segunda Angostura y advirtieron en ellas la presencia de una rica y abundante fauna residente. Esta noci車n cobr車 mayor fuerza tras el sucesivo paso de los navegantes holandeses para quienes las mismas islas devinieron verdaderas despensas alimentarias, circunstancia valorada y difundida posteriormente en los Pa赤ses Bajos y en Europa en narraciones impresas, mapas y grabados, debidamente destacada como un rasgo geogr芍fico caracterizador. En el art赤culo se recuerda ese paso y se hacen algunas consideraciones en su respecto incluyendo adem芍s la rectificaci車n de un hecho hist車rico acaecido en la isla Marta durante el viaje de Oliverio van Noort (1599), que en los grabados de la 谷poca fue equivocadamente situado sobre la costa de la tierra del Fuego (cabo Orange), lo que hizo que se tuviera a los ind赤genas selk＊nam como los sujetos de la agresi車n holandesa en vez de los kaw谷skar como en la realidad sucedi車. From the first east-west exploratory voyages of Magellan Strait sailor crews knew the small islands that appear at the center of the big channel after the Segunda Angostura and noticed the presence of a rich and abundant resident wildlife. This evidence becomes stronger with the successive passage of Dutch sailors for whom the islands became a kind of pantry, a fact valued and subsequently disseminated in the Netherlands and Europe in narratives, maps and prints, duly highlighted as a clear geographic feature. The article recalls these trips and rectifies a historical fact happened at Marta island during Oliver van Noort∩s travel (1599), which in the engravings of the time was mistakenly placed on the coast of tierra del Fuego (Cape Orange) attributing the encounter to the selk＊nam of tierra del Fuego, instead of the kaweskars as it really happened.
