%X Cada a o cerca de tres millones de trabajadores de la salud experimentan exposici車n percut芍nea a los pat車genos transmitidos por la sangre, y la mayor赤a de ellos son prevenibles. En las 迆ltimas d谷cadas ha ido creciendo la importancia concedida a la salud y seguridad del personal sanitario, as赤 como la conciencia de que una atenci車n de salud de calidad depende de un entorno laboral seguro. Un aspecto de suma importancia relacionado con los accidentes/incidentes y lesiones por exposici車n a sangre, otros fluidos corporales y objetos cortopunzantes en los trabajadores de la salud, es la necesidad de su reporte, ya que este garantiza la investigaci車n del accidente, una atenci車n oportuna del lesionado y su seguimiento, elementos que permiten minimizar el impacto en la salud y proveer informaci車n 迆til para la prevenci車n y control de estos eventos, especialmente si est芍n integrados en un sistema de vigilancia, como herramienta eficaz para la salud ocupacional. Every year about three million health workers undergo percutaneous bloodborne pathogens incidents, and most of them are preventable. In recent decades there has been growing emphasis on health and safety for health workers as well as the awareness of a quality health care depends on a safe working environment. the need of reporting accidents, incidents, and injuries from blood exposure, other body fluids, and sharps objects in health workers is highly important, as to guarantee the accident investigation, timely care to the injured and monitoring elements which minimize the impact on health and provide useful information for prevention and control of these events, especially if they are set in a monitoring system, as an effective tool for occupational health.
