Central Europe %D 2011 %I Kozminski University %X The article presents the evolution of the leadership concept and the importance of leadership competencies in an organization. On the basis of leadership competencies¡¯ model and empirical data, the essence of leadership is shown as the bilateral relationship between leader and employees, in which leaders should be coherent individuals with distinctive features, such as: interpersonal skills, especially teamworking, and personal competencies deriving from work on oneself.
