%X El objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar si la calidad de los agaves guanajuatenses es igual a la de los cultivados en Jalisco. Se realiz¨® un estudio comparativo del contenido de az¨²cares de los agaves (A. tequilana Weber) cultivados en ambos estados. Se emplearon datos de az¨²cares reductores totales (%ART) agrupados en dos per¨ªodos y grados Brix (¡ãBx) de muestras de jugo crudo, proporcionados por una tequilera de la regi¨®n: agosto a diciembre de 1998 y de enero a mayo del 2000. Los datos se procesaron estad¨ªsticamente aplicando un an¨¢lisis de varianza y prueba de Tukey para comparaci¨®n de medias. Se determin¨® la correlaci¨®n entre los ¡ãBx y el %ART. En el primer per¨ªodo, la media del %ART para el proveedor de Manuel Doblado, Gto. fue de 24.43 ¡À2.29 y no present¨® diferencia estad¨ªstica significativa (p<0.05) con los proveedores de los Altos, Jal. En el segundo per¨ªodo la media para el proveedor de P¨¦njamo, Gto. fue de 26.78¡À5.96 y fue estad¨ªsticamente igual a los proveedores 4, 5, 6, 7 y 9 de los Altos, Jal. La correlaci¨®n entre %ART y oBx fue de 0.9621 significativa a un nivel del 1%. Se concluye que seg¨²n el contenido de az¨²cares, los agaves guanajuatenses son de buena calidad y no presentaron diferencia estad¨ªstica significativa con respecto a los cultivados por 7 proveedores del estado de Jalisco. The objetive of this work was to determine if the quality of Guanajuato agaves is equal to the agaves cultivated in Jalisco. A comparative study was made of the sugar content of the agave (A. tequilana Weber) cultivated in both states. Used were data of total reducing sugars (%TRS) and Brix degrees (oBx) of raw juice samples provided by a tequilera of the region between August and December, 1998 and January and May, 2000. The data were statistically processed, applying an ANOVA analysis and a Tukey test to compare the media and the correlation between ¡ãBx and %TRS was made. In the first period, the media %TRS from the supplier of Manuel Doblado, Gto. was 24.43 ¡À2.29 and did not show a significant statistical difference (p<0.05) with the suppliers of Los Altos, Jal. In the second period, the media of the suppliers of P¨¦njamo, Gto. was 26.78¡À5.96 and was equal statistically to suppliers 4, 5, 6, 7 y 9 of Los Altos, Jal. The correlation between %TRS and ¡ãBx of 0.9621 was significant to a level of 1%. One concludes that, according to sugar count, the agaves from Guanajuato are of good quality and do not present a significant statistical difference with respect to those cultivated by seven suppliers from the state of Jalisco.
