Some concerns arise in relation to this matter: what are the clinical manifestations of diabetic ketoacidosis? As nursing works in the intensive care unit? What nursing interventions in diabetic ketoacidosis in the intensive care unit? Methodology: theoretical essay based on a literature review of the narrative type. It was selected articles indexed in databases Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and the Database of Nursing (BDENF), using as descriptors in the pursuit of study: nursing, intensive care unit, diabetic ketoacidosis. Results: diabetic ketoacidosis is an acute and serious condition that develops predominantly in patients with Type 1 diabetes mellitus. Given its severity and the operations to be performed in intensive care, the health staff and nursing staff must carry out an appropriate treatment for each patient, covering all aspects related to their clinical conditions.
