%X O presente artigo pretende analisar v¨¢rios testemunhos a partir de duas quest es. Inicialmente investiga a hierarquia entre as cores da pele, a dicotomia entre branco/nobre e negro/vil. Em seguida, analisa o car¨¢ter inato dos h¨¢bitos ou a capacidade de herdar o comportamento e a moral. A partir desta investiga  o, pretende-se refletir sobre as classifica  es sociais, particularmente sobre a hierarquia da cor e, porque n o, sobre a id¨¦ia de ra a em Portugal e no Brasil col nia. This article leads to analyze various testimonies from two issues. Initially investigates the hierarchy of skin color, the dichotomy between white/ black and noble/ vile. It then analyzes the innate character of the habits or the ability to inherit the behavior and morals. From this research, we intend to reflect on the social classifications, particularly on the hierarchy of color, and why not, on the idea of race in Portugal and Brazil colony.
