%X L¡¯objet de cet article est d¡¯appr¨¦hender l¡¯¨¦volution de Mumbai sur la sc¨¨ne ¨¦conomique mondiale et son positionnement dans l¡¯armature urbaine ¨¤ l¡¯¨¦chelle globale. Ainsi, le cadre th¨¦orique des r¨¦gions m¨¦tropolitaines globales (global city r¨¦gions de Scott et al., 2001) est-il interrog¨¦ au regard des ¨¦volutions du syst¨¨me productif m¨¦tropolitain et du jeu des acteurs politiques. ¨¤ une ¨¦chelle plus fine, nous mettons en perspective les dynamiques propres ¨¤ deux zones industrielles en pr¨¦sentant leur activit¨¦ (principalement bijouterie et informatique), leur int¨¦gration respective dans le syst¨¨me productif r¨¦gional et mondial ainsi que les politiques d¡¯encadrement diff¨¦renci¨¦es autour de chacun de ces espaces. The purpose of this paper is to apprehend the evolution of Mumbai in the world economy and its positioning in the urban hierarchy on a global scale. Thus, the theoretical framework of global city regions (Scott et al., 2001) is explored with regard to developments in the metropolitan production system and the interplay of political actors situated at various scales. At at a more micro scale, we put into perspective the specific dynamics of two industrial areas: their business activities (mainly jewelry and computers), their integration in the respective regional and global production systems and the differentiated policy framework put in place for each of these areas.
