%X L¡¯auteur se donne pour objectif de montrer en quoi il est l¨¦gitime et f¨¦cond d¡¯¨¦clairer l¡¯ uvre de ces deux cin¨¦astes ¨¤ la lumi¨¨re des travaux d¡¯Aby Warburg sur le Quattrocento ou sur les Hopis d¡¯Am¨¦rique. La mise en ¨¦vidence d¡¯une identit¨¦ de d¨¦marches entre l¡¯historien de l¡¯art et Fellini et Pasolini ouvre la perspective d¡¯un renouvellement de la mani¨¨re dont on aborde traditionnellement le rapport qu¡¯entretiennent ces cin¨¦astes avec le pass¨¦ : le retour ¨¤ l¡¯Antiquit¨¦ peut- ¨ºtre envisag¨¦ comme la forme d¡¯une d¨¦marche visant ¨¤ mettre au jour le retour de l¡¯antique, entendu comme les formes symptomales d¡¯un pass¨¦ vivant dans le pr¨¦sent. Si Warburg ne s¡¯est pas explicitement int¨¦ress¨¦ au cin¨¦ma, ses travaux sur l¡¯image et les repr¨¦sentations ouvrent d¡¯int¨¦ressantes perspectives sur la mani¨¨re dont Fellini et Pasolini ont cherch¨¦ ¨¤ interroger leur propre moyen d¡¯expression, via l¡¯antique. I would like to show in this paper that it is legitimate and fruitful to consider Fellini¡¯s and Pasolini¡¯s works through Warburg¡¯s studies of the Quattrocento or of the Hopis in America. The comparison of their methods paves the way for new perspectives on their relation to the past. Indeed, we may see the return to Antiquity in their works as a way to bring into light the return of the Antiquity, considered here as the symptomatic forms of a past still living in the present. Warburg was not particularly interested in cinema, but his work on the Image and on representations opens interesting perspectives on the way Fellini and Pasolini questioned their own means of expression, thanks to the Antiquity.
