%X Serious attempts to come to terms with the issues underlying the current environmental crisis is calling into question some very basic assumptions within the mainstream traditions of economics and development. This article explores some of the insights which are arising from a combination of the fields of ecological economics and political ecology. The aim in combining these two fields is to facilitate an inquiry into the political processes and institutions involved in questions of unequal ecological flows and distribution.
