%X The paper deals with a presentation of the Virgin with the Christ Child, in the niche above the archivolt of the western portal of the Church of the Transfiguration, in Novgorod. The fresco is assumed to have belonged to the painted ensemble in the church narthex, none of which has survived. It is also believed that like Theophanes the Greek, who headed the group painting the naos in the church, the zographos who worked on the decoration of the narthex, had arrived from Constantinople.
