There are many lossy and lossless techniques available for image compression.Block truncation coding is a lossy moment preserving quantization method for image compression. Its advantages are simplicity, fault tolerance, the relatively high compression efficiency and good image quality of the decoded image. The reduction in file size allows more images to be stored in a given amount of disk or memory space. It also reduces the time required for images to be sent over the Internet or downloaded from web pages Adaptive block truncation coding is based on multi level quantizer, where four levels are used for the method. The proposed method is based on the adaptive block truncation coding using eight levels over separate block for image compression.
