%X This paper aims to contribute to understanding the role and importance of the concept of industrial ecology. Thus, are presented some notions about ecology, about the analogy between natural and industrial ecosystems, some points of view of specialists on industrial ecology, up to accepting the idea that industrial ecology is the science of sustainable development.
