Root colonization of VAM fungi was studied in seven different species of Plantago. Colonization was high among all species. The highest intensity of root cortex colonization (M%), relative arbuscular richness (A%) and arbuscule richness in root fragments were found in the Plantago schwarzenbergiana. Comparison of the VAM colonization in roots from different ecosystems suggested that plants grown in the saline habitats might be more dependence on VAM. There is a suggestion that AM fungi were able to detect variations in land. There is also an indication that VAM abundance was a response to stress. %U http://www.biologie.uvt.ro/annals/vol_13/vol_XIII_129-134.pdf
