%X This paper tries to present the redescription of the classical idea of subjectivity introduced by Sigmund Freud and part of its influence on Richard Rorty¡¯s work. In this sense, this text opens itself in four ways. First of all, it shows the fundamental ideas that gave psychoanalysis its revolutionary dimension. Secondly, it studies Freud¡¯s philosophical assumptions in order to view his criticism to the classical idea of subjectivity. Thirdly, it reviews the conception on subjectivity developed in three of Freud¡¯s works. Finally, it tests the influence of that conception in Contingency, irony and solidarity, one of the most important of Rorty¡¯s works.
