MethodsCaspase-8 protein expression was examined by immunohistochemistry in liver biopsy samples from 70 patients with CHB, 50 patients with CHC, 50 patients with NASH, and 15 healthy controls. Histological analysis was performed to grade extent of inflammation and fibrosis. Apoptosis was detected by TUNEL assay. The significance of intergroup differences were assessed by Chi-squared test or Fisher¡¯s exact test, and correlation was assessed by Spearman¡¯s rank correlation coefficient. ResultsCaspase-8 expression was significantly higher in CHB (58.6%), CHC (64.0%), and NASH (82.0%) liver tissues than in healthy control liver tissues (13.3%) (all P£¼0.05). The increased caspase-8 expression was closely related to liver cell apoptosis (r=0.409, P£¼0.001). Moreover, the rate of caspase-8 detection was positively correlated with extent of pathological injury (P£¾0.05). ConclusionCaspase-8-mediated apoptosis of liver cells may play an important role in the pathogeneses of hepatitis diseases. %K caspase 8 %K hepatitis %K chronic %K apoptosis %U http://www.lcgdbzz.org/qk_content.asp?id=5284&ClassID=115155845
