%X Los libros desde sus or赤genes han contado con ilustraciones, pero es con la aparici車n de la imprenta de tipos m車viles y el grabado en xilograf赤a que, al conjuntarse, se consigui車 la reproducci車n fiel y masiva tanto de las palabras como de las im芍genes. Esto plantea problemas tanto al interior de las bibliotecas como al exterior de ellas con respecto a la imagen. Hacia el interior las bibliotecas han privilegiado la escritura como la informaci車n registrada por excelencia, mientras que a las im芍genes se les ha dado una posici車n un tanto marginal. Hacia el exterior de las bibliotecas, en el espacio social, fue d芍ndose la omnipresencia permanente de las im芍genes en la vida cotidiana de las personas. Por lo que esto representa el ascenso de la cultura visual. De ah赤 que se plantee la necesidad de que en las bibliotecas se le d谷 a la imagen un tratamiento apropiado a su especificidad y a su importancia, lo que har赤a de la biblioteca una plataforma para la conjunci車n de la cultura escrita y la cultura visual. From the beginning, books have had illustrations, but only with the advent of movable type and woodcut printing could quality, mass reproduction of both word and image be achieved. This achievement poses problems inside libraries and beyond library walls with regard to the images contained in books. Library organizations have privileged written text and recorded information, while images have been marginalized. In contrast, the social spaces outside of the library saw images become preponderant, occupying a nearly omnipresent position in the lives of people, giving rise to a highly visual culture. In this context, libraries need to treat images in accord with their specificity and importance, making libraries a platform for promoting both literacy and visual culture.
