Orient¨¦e vers l¡¯exportation, tourn¨¦e vers les ¨¦tats-Unis et le march¨¦ nord-am¨¦ricain, celle-ci s¡¯est modernis¨¦e, au prix toutefois d¡¯importantes restructurations. Le cas du secteur automobile est ¨¤ cet ¨¦gard exemplaire. L¡¯article qui suit analyse les transformations dans ce secteur dans le District f¨¦d¨¦ral. L¡¯auteure utilise les donn¨¦es des recensements et s¡¯appuie sur les r¨¦sultats d¡¯une enqu¨ºte men¨¦e aupr¨¨s des entreprises. Il en ressort que, malgr¨¦ certaines difficult¨¦s, les grandes et moyennes entreprises sont en condition de fournir directement les usines de montage lorsqu¡¯elles sont en mesure de s¡¯adapter et r¨¦pondre ¨¤ leurs exigences. Le texte met en ¨¦vidence le cas de la micro-entreprise TIER 1 qui travaille pour Volkswagen. Cette entreprise a d¨¦montr¨¦ sa capacit¨¦ d¡¯apprentissage technologique sans avoir re u l¡¯appui de cette compagnie. Starting in 1986 with the unilateral withdrawal from the protective tariff system, and reinforced in 1994 when the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) came into force, the policy of reorienting the Mexican economy toward the outside world was accelerated, especially towards the US and North America. The automotive industry in particular has gone through significant transformations, both in terms of modernization and relocation. This paper discusses the changes that have been taking place in the automotive industry established in Mexico City based on existing statistic data from the Census and evidence collected from a survey of industry companies. This article makes the argument that in spite of many difficulties, not only large or medium-sized companies can be direct suppliers of automobile assembly plants, given that this is dependent upon the ability to respect to the plants¡¯ requirements. The paper highlights the case of a Volkswagen TIER1 micro-enterprise and its survival strategies, including its technological learning, which stands out against the absence of support from the automobile manufacturer.
