The latter are extremely frequent among health care workers. Aim: To evaluate sleep quality in health care workers of a Greek provincial general hospital Material and Methods: Seventy seven health professionals of General Hospital of Karpenisi took part in the study( doctors, nurses and paramedicals). 49 were women and 28 were men. Athens Insomnia Scale was used to evaluate sleep quality. The scale includes 8 closed type questions and scoring is based on a 4- point likert scale, extending from zero to 3). A total score equal or greater to 6 suggests inadequate sleep. Statistics was processed with SPSS 17.0. Level of statistical significance was set at p=0,05. Results: Mean age of participants was 38,80¡À10,78 years old. Mean insomnia scale total score was 7,03 ¡À 4,63. 60% of health professionals reported inadequate sleep. Health professionals working in surgery or internal medicine department exhibited more sleep problems in comparison with health professionals working in laboratory department, without difference reaching statistical significance( p=0,098). Existing of children was associated with more sleep disturbances (p=0.078). ¦­¦Ï statistical difference was observed between health professionals of different age. Conclusions: Insomnia is a common problem between health professionals in the general hospital.
