%0 Journal Article %T How do young people from so called ¡°rough area¡± perceive the society where they are evolving? %A Dalila Belgacem %J Educa£¿£¿o : Teoria e Pr¨¢tica %D 2011 %I Universidade Estadual Paulista %X What young people see from the society they are evolving in gives us a clue about and an understanding of the reasons why they sometimes become violent. Young people are revolted because they feel like a lot of things are unfair; they miss ¡°moral values¡± and ¡°points of reference¡±, as if nothing made ¡°sense¡± anymore. Then, consumersociety leads some young people into confusing reality with fictional fact and ultimately creates envy and jealousy. With the evolution of society and the fact that traditional rites ¡°disappear¡±, young people are faced with the only rite that still exists to ¡°jump¡± from childhood to grow-up world: school. But those who are not going to school will have to find and search for other ¡° rites of passage ¡± and we think that this is a major risk for young people, because this is where they could be ¡°separated¡± from the society.
