%X In this study, we¡¯ll examine the way is treated the identification of linguistic classes in terms of Andr¨¦ Martinet¡¯s functionalism. To do so, we¡¯ll first present the problem of linguistic classes in traditional grammar. Then we¡¯ll briefly present some of the basic characteristics of Andr¨¦ Martinet¡¯s functionalist linguistics and finalize our article with some personal suggestions.
