%X The American Men¡¯s Studies Association promotes ethical values of equality and inclusivity across such social barriers as race, ethnicity, and class. I explore two practices, characteristic of hegemonic masculinity¡ªa focus on time as an organizing principle and maintaining an individualist self-identity¡ªthat undermine these values. Reflecting on the spatial orientation and communal identities of indigenous peoples, I argue that these provide helpful correctives on the way to more adequate visions of and work for justice.
