%X Nature has always played a major part in Michael Longley's poetry, for ecological reasons but also because of the feeling of empathy involved, as Snow Water published in 2004 testifies. This analysis will rely essentially on Gaston Bachelard's phenomenological approach which deals with the way human reverie on matter governs poetic writing as the sensitory experience of the world.
